PSAT/NMSQT Information

We will be offering the PSAT in a limited capacity to Juniors who wish to compete for the National Merit Scholarship.  As you decide if you want to participate, this is what you should consider:

  • The PSAT is intended as “practice” for the SAT.  UC, CSU, and many private colleges are not taking SAT scores into account through 2024, so taking PSAT for the sake of practice is not relevant.
  • Only students interested in competing for National Merit Scholarship eligibility should consider taking the PSAT/NMSQT.
  • SCHS will order a PSAT/NMSQT for any 11th grader interested in competing for National Merit Scholarship eligibility.
  • The test will be administered in person, at SCHS on January 26th. Participating students will be expected to follow all existing protocols for small cohorts on campus, which means that they must wear masks and stay 6 feet apart at all times. They cannot mingle with students testing in other classrooms.  They will not be permitted to test if they are feeling unwell or have a temperature.

If you wish to take the test, please email Italia DeLeón, the Counseling Secretary by midnight Wednesday December 2nd. The deadline for the school to order the tests is Thursday December 3rd, so we cannot honor any late requests.
